Quang Tri Provincial Party Secretary welcomes delegation from My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Corporation (MTIP)
On February 20, 2025, Mr. Nguyen Long Hai, Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee, hosted a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Corporation (MTIP), led by Professor John Kent, MTIP’s Senior Strategic Advisor. The delegation visited Quang Tri for meetings and discussions. The reception was also attended by representatives from the Provincial Party Committee’s Propaganda Department, the Provincial Party Office, Ms. Nguyen Trieu Thuong - Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and leaders from the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board.
The My Thuy Port project, led by MTIP, spans 685 hectares with a total of 10 berths, capable of accommodating vessels up to 100,000 tons. The project’s total investment is VND 15,000 billion, divided into three phases: Phase 1 (2018-2025) involves building four berths with an investment of VND 5,902 billion; Phase 2 (2026-2031) includes three additional berths with VND 5,876 billion; and Phase 3 (2032-2036) adds three more berths with VND 3,222 billion.
During the meeting, Professor John Kent, on behalf of the MTIP delegation, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the provincial leaders and departments of Quang Tri for their warm reception. He also shared ideas to enhance trade balance between the United States and Vietnam, particularly between the United States and Quang Tri. These ideas included importing goods transportation equipment, infrastructure construction equipment, and agricultural products from the United States to Quang Tri through the My Thuy port. Furthermore, Professor Kent emphasized the significance of the transportation network connecting Quang Tri with neighboring countries such as Laos and Thailand through national highways, expressways, dry ports, and deep-water ports. This connectivity not only benefits the development of My Thuy Port but also contributes to the overall economic growth of the province.
Speaking at the meeting, Secretary Nguyen Long Hai welcomed the MTIP delegation and highly appreciated Professor Kent’s valuable insights. He noted that the professor’s ideas align well with the province’s development strategy. With its favorable geographical location and numerous advantages, Quang Tri is enhancing its infrastructure and transportation connectivity to attract more investors. The growth of My Thuy Port is a critical link in this development chain. On this occasion, Secretary Nguyen Long Hai expressed his hope that Professor John Kent would continue to support MTIP and Quang Tri by providing strategic consultancy, contributing to the province’s socio-economic development in the near future.
